We take donation to the cause of Allah for
granted; we spend a lot of money in recharge cards, DSTV subscription, films,
musical CDs, etc. but when it comes to Fissabillilah
we renege and just give paltry sums of N20 or N50.
We should ask ourselves; how much do we want
Allah’s Rahama in the hereafter? We spend so much on things that are not
useful to us in the hereafter and As-Shaitan
is aiding and abetting us by telling us to give little to the cause of Allah
but spend so much on trivialities of this world that are only useful to us here
in the world.
Do we feel guilty at all about spending
money on trivialities rather than donating to the cause of Allah?
You will see people bunching their fists with paltry
sums of N20 or N50 in Masjids because
they do not want the next person to know what they are donating; that act is Riya because you are only concerned with
what the other person will think about what you are donating rather than what
Allah will think about what you are donating to His cause.
Let us donate generously to the cause of
Allah and how do we do that?
When we make intention to donate to the cause of
Allah we should declare in our minds a reasonable percentage of our income say
like 10% and above. The next time we are
buying video or musical CDs or paying DSTV subscription we should remember
whether we have set aside at least 10% or our income to the cause of Allah.
For those of us that rely on daily takings like
the Okada man who toils during the
day to be able to meet up with what he balances the owner of the motorcycle, he
may put aside at least 5% of whatever takings that comes to him after the
balance to his Oga.
